MARYLAND STATE BAR ANNOUNCES 6th ANNUAL VIDEO & POSTER CONTEST
~ Offering Cash Prizes for Law Day Video and Poster Competition ~

BALTIMORE, MD. – The Maryland State Bar Association (MSBA) is accepting submissions for its 2014 Law Day Video and Poster Contest.

This year’s theme is “American Democracy and the Rule of Law: Why Every Vote Matters.” Entrants compete for cash prizes, and all submissions must be received by April 1, 2014.

As we approach the 50th anniversaries of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, the 2014 Law Day theme, American Democracy and the Rule of Law: Why Every Vote Matters, calls on every American to reflect on the importance of a citizen’s right to vote and the challenges we still face in ensuring that all Americans have the opportunity to participate in our democracy. Over 200 high school students, teachers, lawyers and judges will explore this concept May 1st at the free daylong conference sponsored by MSBA’s Public Awareness Committee in conjunction with Citizen Law Related Education Program (CLREP) as a public service.

The video competition of this MSBA public education initiative seeks imaginative one- to three-minute videos depicting voting rights in our democracy, and is open to any resident of Maryland, students of any Maryland school, college, university or law school, as well as all attorneys licensed to practice in Maryland. Entries for the parallel poster competition (open to any student of a Maryland high school, junior high or elementary school) must be a minimum of letter-size (8.5”x11”); submissions may be created either digitally or by hand, though a hard copy must be submitted to qualify. The video competition’s top finalists will be screened at MSBA’s May 1, 2014 Law Day Conference, while the winning poster design may adorn the cover of the Law Day program. Both videos and posters will be judged on creativity, originality, adherence to the theme, and overall quality. For further details, visit www.msba.org/media/videocontest.

Entrants will compete for the following prizes, to be selected by MSBA volunteer judges; attendees of MSBA’s Law Day Conference will also vote for the “People’s Choice” Awards at the Law Day program on May 1st.
