Whiteford, Taylor & Preston L.L.P. announces that Colonel Joseph K. Pokempner, Maryland Defense Force (MDDF), has received the Maryland Commendation Medal from the State of Maryland Military Department for his commendable service as the director of legal support services for the MDDF, a unit which supports the Maryland National Guard in drill, training and mobilization.

Anne L. Johnson, a Special Counsel in the Business Department of the law firm of Saul Ewing LLP, has been chosen to participate in Leadership Maryland, an independent non-profit organization that seeks to educate the public about critical issues facing the state and region.

Benjamin R. Civiletti, former United States Attorney General and chairman of the law firm Venable LLP, has been chosen as the recipient of the American Judicature Society’s Justice Award. The Justice Award is the Judicature Society’s highest honor, awarded annually to an individual who has made significant contributions to improving the administration of justice nationally.

The law firm of MulreninFrances, P.A., announces that Kimberly S. Keith and Warren B. Duckett, III, have become partners of the firm and Susan A. Winchurch has joined the firm as an associate.

The Metropolitan Washington Employment Lawyers Association honored Leizer Z. Goldsmith, principal of the Goldsmith Law Firm, LLC, as its “Lawyer of the Year” at the organization’s annual luncheon. Goldsmith represents individual employees in employment and civil rights litigation.

James K. Archibald, a partner in the firm of Venable LLP, has become a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers.

William A. Mogel has joined the law firm of Saul Ewing LLP. He will practice at the firm’s new office in Newark, New Jersey.

Norman L. Eule has joined the Bethesda-based law firm of Garson Claxton LLC. He will lead the firm’s tax department.

The Honorable Steven I. Platt, Circuit Court Judge for Prince George’s County, has been appointed to serve on the Judicial Advisory Board of the American Enterprise Institute – Brookings Joint Center for Regulatory Studies Judicial Education Program headquartered at the Brookings Institute in Washington, D.C.

The Law Firm of Gimmel, Weiman, Ersek & Bloomberg, P.A., announces the addition of Geoffrey S. Platnick as an associate attorney. Platnick’s practice will concentrate on areas of domestic relations and family law, civil litigation and collections.

Carlos A. Braxton has joined the law firm of Hodes, Ulman, Pessin & Katz, P.A., as an associate. Braxton will work in the firm’s Litigation Practice Group, focusing on the areas of products liability, personal tort liability claims and medical malpractice.

Mintax, Inc., an organization focused on obtaining and maximizing tax credits and government incentives for corporations, has hired H. Francis Reaves as director of its nationwide business development team.

Timothy F. McCormack has joined the Baltimore office of the law firm of Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP, as a partner. Jennifer E. Keyser has also joined the firm’s Baltimore office as an associate.

James E. Goodrich, a real estate attorney in the office of Saul Ewing LLP, was recently named head of the Programs Committee for the Baltimore District Council of the Urban Land Institute (ULI).

The Daily Record has named Saul Ewing attorney Nicole Pastore Klein, an attorney in the law firm’s Litigation Department, as one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women for 2005. Also named in this year’s list, created in 1996 to recognize the outstanding achievements of professional women in the state, is Amy Glaser Cohen, a principal at the law firm of Knight, Manzi, Nussbaum & LaPlaca, P.A.
