John H Denick

John H. Denick, former Chair of the MSBA Business Law Section, has been named one of "Maryland's Legal Elite of 2006" by Smart CEO Magazine. The list is comprised by suggestions from peers, CEOs, business owners and industry experts.

The American Bar Association has re-elected Paul Mark Sandler as Secretary of its Section of Litigation. Sandler, a lawyer with the firm Shapiro, Sher, Guinot & Sandler, is responsible for the Section's national policies and documenting the Committee's yearly activities.

Douglas M. Topolski and Patrick M. Shelley, attorneys for McGuireWoods, LLP, have been named to the 2006 edition of Chambers USA: America's Leading Business Lawyers, an annual publication that honors the top lawyers in America.

The Legal Aid Bureau has named Carlos A. Braxton, an associate with Hodes, Ulman, Pessin & Katz, P.A., as its "Young Lawyer of the Year" due to his active fundraising efforts within the Bureau.

Kathleen Chagnon has joined the Litigation Department of DLA Piper US, LLP, where she will focus on major business transactions and the representation of public and private companies.

Venable LLP has improved its regional bankruptcy division with the addition of experienced bankruptcy and restructuring attorney Stephen K. Gallagher, who was also named one of 2007's Best Lawyers in America in bankruptcy and creditor-debtor rights law.

James A. Rothchild, a senior partner with Anderson, Coe and King, LLP, has been selected as one of Maryland's Legal Elite of 2006 by Smart CEO Magazine.

Marci I. Gordon has joined Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP, as a partner with the firm's Real Estate Department. She concentrates in general real estate law and has particular experience in real estate development and acquisition.

The Law Office of Kathleen J. Masterton, P.C., has relocated to the Riderwood Building, 1107 Kenilworth Avenue, Suite 312, Towson 21204.

Saul Ewing LLP has announced an agreement in principle to merge with the Washington, D.C.-based firm Schmeltzer, Aptaker & Shepard, P.C., which specializes in labor and employment law. The merge is subject to final partner and shareholder approval by each firm. The combination is expected to be completed by the first of October and they will operate under the title of Saul Ewing LLP.

Corporate Counsel Magazine conducted a survey of general counsels in Fortune 250 companies and announced that McGuireWoods, LLP, has tied for third place among the top 14 firms cited for their litigation practice.
