MSBA’s Immediate Past President Alison L. Asti was appointed as the Maryland State Chair to the American Bar Foundation Fellows.  She is also a member of the ABA’s House of Delegates.

Wilhelm H. Joseph, Jr., Executive Director of Maryland’s Legal Aid Bureau, received the Denison Ray Award at the National Legal Aid & Defender Association’s Annual Conference Awards.  Given biannually, the award recognizes exceptional service in the legal aid community as a staff member, client board member or volunteer.

Margaret H. Oliver, an attorney at Hodes, Pessin & Katz, PA, was elected president of Howard County Collaborative Professionals, Inc., a non-profit organization of specially trained attorneys, mental health practitioners, and financial professionals committed to Collaborative Practice. 

VirtualCourthouse, an Internet-based Alternative Dispute Resolution service, has added the Honorable Steven I. Platt (Ret.) as its Chief Industry Advisor.

H. Wayne Norman, Jr., PA, a civil litigation firm in Bel Air, Maryland, added Brian K. Young as an associate.

Tiffany Franc, a University of Baltimore law student and paralegal at Hodes, Pessin & Katz, PA, was the Keynote Speaker for Baltimore County’s National Adoption Day ceremony on Saturday, November 15, 2008.

Shapiro Sher Guinot & Sandler have added John J. Lovejoy and Daniel J. Zeller as associates in the firm’s litigation department, and bankruptcy and financial restructuring group, respectively. 

Hodes, Pessin & Katz, PA, brought in attorneys Robin D. Korte, Ryan A. Young and David D. Burkhouse as associates in the firm’s litigation department.  Furthermore, their colleague John Carroll Broderick moved from the firm’s Towson office to the Bel Air office. 

Wayne G. Gracey has joined Coover & Barr, LLC, where he will practice in civil litigation, bankruptcy, personal injury criminal defense and real estate law. 

The Baltimore Urban Debate League, Life Pieces of Masterpieces and The Ark Preschool for Homeless Children will receive $45,000 in grants from Ober Kaler’s 2008 Community Grants Program, a program that improves the lives of at-risk youth in Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

Whitman-Walker Clinic’s Estate Planning program named J. Max Barger, an attorney at Paley Rothman, as their newest Volunteer Coordinator.
