 TECHNOLOGY TALK:

BY JOHN ANDERSON

If you spend any time online, you probably have a bunch of favorite sites you visit all the time. Facebook, iTunes, Twitter, YouTube, Travelocity and shopping sites of all types.
BlastoffNetwork.com is a new site that is a jumping-off point for all of the online locations you visit most. It also rewards you by using your Blastoff Network page to shop online from sites you already use. It also connects you to news, sports, finance, entertainment, e-mail, videos, blogs, games and more.
The Blastoff Homepage is separated into customizable panels which act as containers for the different types of online content. What types of panels are there?

  • The Information Panel. Here you can stream a wide array of information, news, commentary, gossip and blog sites.
  • The Media Panel. This area contains content from leading online music and video streams. Watch videos from YouTube, Hulu and others, such as AOL music.
  • The Social Panel. You can make use of Facebook, Twitter and Yahoo Mail all from this one spot.
  • The Games Panel. The games here are fun and free. You can play a variety of games, from classics to recent releases.

Customizable Content

The Blastoff Network is all about customization. You can load up the panels with the content you choose from a huge variety of providers. Changing or adding these content widgets can be done with just a few simple clicks.

Each provider you want to connect to has a Blastoff widget that displays their content in the Blastoff panel. Click on the widgets you want to add to your panel to keep connected to your favorite content. You can reorganize the widgets by dragging and dropping them, and if you no longer want them, drag them in the trash can icon at the bottom of the panel.

Customization doesn’t end with just the content panels. You can give the whole site a new look by applying different themes. You can also change the look of each panel separately by clicking the different circles in the upper right of each panel.

When you finish the sign-up process, you will see a little meter on your page showing your progress in completing your status. It starts off at 10 percent, but don’t worry too much about this little doodad. You don’t get anything special for bringing it up to 100 percent. You can increase the meter by completing different actions on your Blastoff page. One of the easiest is to add a profile picture.

Great Deals and Cash Back

Okay, so that takes care of the Blastoff homepage – but wait, there’s more. Blastoff is a great place to do just about all your online shopping. Blastoff Wireless has great deals on wireless phones for all major carriers and offers free FedEx two-day shipping. You can save up to $300 on your next phone purchase.

That might sound great, but it gets even better. You can book your travel using the sources you already use, like Expedia, Hotels.com, Travelocity, Orbitz and Priceline. Why use Blastoff to access these sites when you could go straight to the source? One reason is that each purchase you make earns you cash back. Cell phones, airfare and hotel stays all earn you cash. Sure, you can go to iTunes and buy a new album. Or, you can go to iTunes through your Blastoff Network site, buy the same album at the same price, but also get 3 percent cash back!

But it doesn’t stop there. You can use Blastoff to build your own unique online mall. Chose from over 400 of the biggest online stores like iTunes, Target, Macy’s and Best Buy. You can use the specialty store-search to find those stores that cater to your interests.

When you link to these websites and make purchases, you receive anywhere from 1-10 percent cash back in your Blastoff Network Account.

If you plan to move, Blastoff also offers helpful services to assist you in changing your phone, Internet, cable or satellite provider.

Tell Your Friends

If you invite your family and friends to sign up for their own Blastoff Network Account you get another special bonus. Not only will you get cash back from all of your purchases but you will get cash every time someone in your network buys something. You will get paid every time they buy a song on iTunes, books at Barnes & Noble or a new TV at Target. As your friends begin to invite their friends, you will see your network and your income begin to virally grow. The larger you grow your network, the more money you can make.

Your Blastoff Network can extend out to 10 degrees of separation from yourself. The more people you personally refer, the larger your Network can become! If you sign up three people and your Network grows at that same multiple out 10 degrees, you will have more than 80,000 in your Network. But if you sign up 20 people and your Network grows at the same rate out 10 degrees, you will have more 590,000 in your Network!

Growing your network is easy. You can send invitations to friends using your contact list. Blastoff can import contacts from Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, AOL and Outlook. You can also place links on your Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and LinkedIn pages directing people to your Blastoff signup page.

News, entertainment, shopping and networking all rolled into one. Like the site says, “Why just log on when you can Blastoff?”
