New Admittee Information
WELCOME TO THE MARYLAND STATE BAR ASSOCIATION
Below are some helpful FAQs to get you started. For more information, view the June New Admittee Information Packet.
- When will my free membership in the MSBA begin?
It will begin a few days following your swearing in at the Court.
- How long will my free membership last?
June Admits: You will receive 8 months free membership until January 31 of next year. In November of that year, you will receive a prorated invoice for the remaining 5 months of the bar membership year. This will continue your membership through June 30.
December Admits: You will receive 8 months free membership until July 31 of the following year. In June of that year, you will receive a prorated invoice for the remaining 11 months of the bar membership year. This will continue your membership through June 30 of the next year.
- How many sections may I join for free?
You will automatically be added to the Young Lawyer Section which is our largest section. You will then be eligible to join 3 additional sections. A list of all sections can be found at MSBA.org. The MSBA has over 28 different sections to choose from.
All sections have a website on the MSBA website with additional information about their activities.
NOTE: YOU MUST COMPLETE THE SPECIAL FORM TO BE ADDED TO A SECTION
- What if I want to join more sections?
You may join as many as you like but you will have to pay the Section dues for the year beginning July 1.
- Who do I contact about the sections I want to join?
Please complete the special form to sign up for your sections. It is important that you complete this form so that we are certain that we have accurate information.
- How can I join a section discussion list (listserv)?
All sections have discussion and/or announcement lists for their members. Most section lists are open only to section membership as a benefit of membership. Please indicate on the form for joining sections if you wish to be added to the listserv.
- How can I use the Mentor Program?
The mentor program is a member benefit. There are over 250 volunteer attorney mentors listed on the msba.org website. They are listed by county and include practice areas. If you have a question or would like to talk to an experienced practitioner, call one of those listed and indicate that you received his/her name from the MSBA website.
- What if I have questions?
