Estate and Trust Law News & Procedures
Section Council Appointment Procedure
Section 4 of the Estate and Trust Law Section
bylaws sets forth our nomination and election procedures. The chair of the
section appoints the nominating committee (from 3 to 7 members), subject
to the approval of the section council.
Traditionally, the 3 immediate past chairs form
the nominating committee. It is typical for the nominating committee to solicit
recommendations from the entire section council. We seek racial, ethnic,
gender and geographic diversity to the extent practicable. The nominating
committee also nominates the new slate of officers. However, our tradition
has been to elevate the secretary to chair-elect, so that the committee really
only nominates a new secretary each year unless another vacancy occurs.
