The Health Law Section will hold a meeting on Monday, November 17, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at Ober | Kaler, 100 Light Street, Baltimore, Maryland. 21202.   A panel will address Understanding Disruptive Health Care Professional Complaints.  Following the 2008 Sentinel Alert on disruptive professionals by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, increasing employment of physicians by hospitals, and changing requirements for patient satisfaction in the ACA, investigation and proper resolution of complaints of disruptive behavior by health care professionals has become increasingly important.  Proper handling of such complaints is needed to minimize litigation risks and to ensure quality patient care.  The latest developments in this area will be addressed by Chae Kwak, LCSW-C, Director of MedChi’s Physicians Rehabilitation and Physicians Health Programs; Frank Wolkenberg, Ph.D., a Principal in Wolkenberg Consulting and a psychologist with experience in mental health issues that affect providers; and Patricia Bramlet, AHFI, a Principal in Wolkenberg Consulting who previously served as Senior Investigator for the Maryland Board of Physicians and a member of MedChi’s senior staff.

This Section conducted educational programs regarding the Maryland Health Benefit Exchange, Accountable Care Organizations, and physician transactions. Its members also participated in a mentor/mentee program at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. The Section reviewed Maryland legislation affecting health care providers and will sponsor a program entitled “Health Law for the Non-Health Care Lawyer” at the MSBA Annual Meeting.
