Navigating Tax Controversies

Navigating Tax Controversies Affecting Human Trafficking Survivors

While often overlooked, resolving tax controversies is a critical step for survivors of human trafficking seeking economic stabilization. Survivors often face unexpected tax liabilities as a result of fraudulent actions taken by their traffickers, unpaid taxes, and other complications arising from their trafficking experience - with such issues often taking years to identify and needing expert help to resolve. Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service (MVLS) and the Human Trafficking Prevention Project (HTPP) are excited to welcome John Hardt, Director of the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic at MVLS, and Azarvand Tax Law to discuss how tax issues may impact human trafficking survivors and outline best practices for tax attorneys and professionals working on such cases in Maryland.

This webinar is hosted by Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service in partnership with the Human Trafficking Prevention Project. For more information about this webinar or services through the HTPP and MVLS, please contact HTPP Project Manager Heather Heiman or 443-451-4075.
