We're issuing an urgent alert regarding a deceptive scam targeting individuals seeking legal assistance in Maryland. A fraudulent website is reportedly impersonating legitimate organizations such as Maryland Legal Aid and Maryland Volunteer Lawyers Service (MVLS), deceptively charging individuals for services that are, in reality, provided free of charge by these organizations.
These scammers are also making multiple unauthorized charges once they obtain a person's credit card information.
Maryland Legal Aid does NOT charge clients fees for its services. If you are asked to pay for legal aid from an entity claiming to be Maryland Legal Aid or MVLS, it is a scam.
